Quiet Concealment
Quiet Concealment is a Chautauqua Park, Boulder, Colorado winter print made on a day when demonstrating weather did most of the composing. Boulder’s seasons are one of the reasons I love living here—conditions change quickly, and the same familiar landmarks can look completely different from one hour to the next.
During this snowstorm, thick clouds covered most of the mountains, but there was just enough of an opening to partially reveal the Flatirons behind the trees. That subtle reveal is the whole point of the image. Instead of showing everything clearly, it gently suggests what’s there—recruiting you to fill in the rest with your own memory and imagination. For those of us who see the Flatirons every day, the scene becomes almost collaborative: you recognize the shape, even as it disappears into fog.
