Flow of Life is a Front Range, Colorado black-and-white waterfall print made during spring runoff—when melting snow turns gentle mountain streams into full-on rivers. I hiked up this creek after a fresh melt, following the sound of water and searching for a composition that felt balanced: enough landscape to hint at place, but close enough that the texture of moving water becomes the subject.
This spot had everything I was looking for. The waterfall flows diagonally through the frame, creating a natural line that pulls your eye from the upper falls down through the cascades. On the far bank, trees and plants hold the edges of the scene and keep it grounded—forest, rock, and water working together instead of competing. In black and white, the image becomes about form and rhythm: the softness of the long-exposure flow against the structure of the rocks and trunks.
