Paintbrush Sunset is a Sawatch Range, Colorado wildflower print from the part of summer I look forward to all year—the brief season when the high country turns into a living carpet of color. Every year I load up the car, haul too much camera gear up mountain trails, and chase the kind of light that only happens for a few minutes at the end of the day.
In the Rockies there are countless wildflower species, but Indian paintbrush has always been one of my favorites. Here, the red blooms rise out of an alpine meadow as the sun drops and the landscape shifts into warm highlights and deep shadows. It’s the kind of evening where you can feel the snowmelt still moving through the mountains—streams threading through the valleys, the air cooling fast, and the whole scene glowing just long enough to make the climb worth it.
