Silver Valley
Silver Valley is a Silverton, Colorado river print made from a perspective I’m always chasing—water in the foreground, mountains behind it, and a clear sense of where the landscape’s life comes from. I’m constantly looking for a stream or river that tells a story: snowmelt from high peaks flowing down into the valleys, feeding the trees, shaping the land, and quietly supporting everything that lives there.
I photographed this scene with a drone, flying low over the valley—about fifty feet up—so the river becomes the thread that leads your eye through the frame. On one side, dense evergreens hold the slope in shadow; on the other, the valley opens up and the light starts to warm the color. A soft bank of fog drifts in along the forest edge, adding depth and a calm, layered atmosphere.
