The Hunt
The Hunt is a Boulder, Colorado wildlife print from a freezing morning after a snowstorm—one of those days when animals seem sharper and more active, as if the cold itself pushes them to keep moving. I was already out photographing the landscape when I noticed a flicker of motion in my peripheral vision. It was around four degrees, my toes were starting to go numb, and a coyote was working the field—patiently searching for food.
Coyotes around Boulder are usually skittish, but this one felt different. He was hungry enough to keep hunting even as I moved closer. Every so often he’d lift his head, watch me for a second, then drop back into the grasses and continue. That rhythm—hunt, pause, assess—made the moment feel intimate without being intrusive.
I love wildlife images that show animals in their environment rather than isolated portraits, and this photograph is exactly that: snow drifting down, grasses softening the frame, and the coyote’s eyes cutting through the haze.
If you’re looking for Boulder Colorado wall art or a winter coyote print with a quiet, slightly abstract mood, The Hunt brings a calm edge of wildness into a home or office.
